Protect and prepare group to implement new terror response law

TRAINING and preparations to protect users of city council-owned venues from terror attacks are being reviewed ahead of a new law.

A new protect and prepare group will be set up, a review of risk assessment at council venues across the city will be carried out, and training of staff will be looked at, in a bid to make the city safer.

Martyn’s Law will ensure safety measures in public spaces are enhanced and that councils and public authorities are better prepared for an attack.

Named in memory of Martyn Hett, a victim of the 2017 Manchester Arena bomb attack, the law is set to come into effect in the spring of 2027, giving authorities time to review and put new plans in place.
