Promise for progress on city’s community centres ‘left in limbo’

COUNCIL SAYS IT AIMS TO PUSH FORWARD WITH NEGOTIATIONS TO MAKE THEM SELF-SUFFICIENT
NOTTINGHAM City Council has insisted it wants to push forward with negotiations on the future of its community centres after some complained they had been “left in limbo”.
The Labour-run authority says it has now written to all of the community centres it has been responsible for as it tries to make them self-sufficient.
The Post's Protect Nottingham Community Centres campaign was launched on January 13 to call for a radical change in the city council’s approach. The authority has provided a subsidy of £600,000 a year to all its community centres combined and the council now wants to end these payments as it battles multi-million-pound budget gaps.
