Prison for abuser who strangled his partner in front of her young son

A MAN strangled his “on-off” partner in front of her 11-year-old son.

During the ordeal, the woman described “seeing stars and gasping for breath,” Nottingham Crown Court heard.

During the months they were together the victim says she was previously strangled, verbally and physically abused and hit by 23-year-old Jordan McKnight. And when McKnight was arrested he also assaulted his former partner's sister and headbutted a police officer.

Jailing him for two-and-a-half years, Judge Michael Auty KC said: “It is true to say you had a wretched upbringing. But the other side of the coin I am afraid is that intentional strangulation must be taken by the courts with real seriousness.

“Because it takes just a few seconds for someone to lapse into unconsciousness and in the most extreme cases can lead to people losing their lives.
