While Samurai style will feel instantly familiar to those who have played the earlier games, when Takechiyo flips to Ninja mode the character feels rocket powered.

Combat as a Ninja is faster, more fluid and uses less stamina (measured here in Ki), although that does come at the expense of recovery time.

Ninja really comes into its own when you are surrounded - be it by humans or supernatural beings called yokai - deploying magic to deal with baddies packing an elemental weakness.

But it’s as the Samurai you have the most fun, hacking and slashing your way through opponents with a brutal glee.

Another new ability which elevates both styles is Martial Arts, which you can activate once the gauge has been filled.
