Nurses vote to strike over 'stealth closure' of hospital unit

NURSES are set to go out on strike as they say a Nottinghamshire hospital's intensive care unit is being closed down “by stealth”.

The Unite union says the trust running Bassetlaw Hospital has confirmed it plans to start transferring more critically-ill patients by ambulance to its hospital in Doncaster.
The Post previously reported claims that there were attempts to transfer staff at Bassetlaw Hospital to the Doncaster Royal Infirmary for at least two months a year, with the possibility of it being increased to four months. Unite says going to Doncaster would add at least an hour-and-a-half to the daily commute for those who drive and three hours for those who use public transport, risking “burnout”.
