Nightmare as Lime bikes are dumped out of city boundary
Nottingham Post
|July 10, 2025
LIME e-bikes are being dumped in Gedling even though they are not supposed to be used outside the city, causing a “nightmare” for residents.
Nottingham City Council says it is aware of the issue and is working with Lime to tackle the problem amid reports of the bikes being stolen to get outside the city boundary, rather than riders paying to hire them as they are supposed to.
Conservative councillors for the Trent Valley area on Gedling Borough Council, Mike Adams and Sam Smith, raised the alarm about the issue as they shared pictures of the bikes being dumped on pavements and leant on wheelie bins. The issue has reportedly affected the Burton Road area in particular and the residential streets off it.
Sue Beeston, who lives in the area, said: "I just saw an abandoned bike on the Colwick Loop Road, on the pavement. It's a bit of an obstacle and I just thought 'why?'"
A resident on Beaumaris Drive, off Burton Road, said: "It's been happening for quite a few months and the odd one has been parked right outside the wall here where the electricity box is. Whoever hires them is responsible, or if they've nicked them."
