ADAM DIED AS A RESULT OF A BURST APPENDIX

- By JOEL MOORE

A NOTTINGHAM man’s pleas for treatment were ignored for days by medics before his death from appendicitis, his heartbroken brother says.

Adam Hussain, 23, died at the Queen's Medical Centre on May 16, despite desperate attempts by surgeons to save him.

According to younger brother Qasim, he had complained of several serious symptoms - such as an inability to stand up, abdominal pain and blood in his urine - as much as four days earlier.

But Qasim said his brother was turned away from A&E and also claimed Adam was told his condition was not serious enough to warrant a paramedic response when he called 999 and 111.

“We were seeking medical attention. We tried to get help but nothing was done,” said Qasim, 22. “If something was done there might have been a different outcome.”

Nottinghamshire NHS leaders expressed their condolences to the family and said an investigation was taking place.

Adam, a factory worker who lived in Clifton, began suffering from abdominal pain and vomiting four days before his death.
