NOTTINGHAM-BORN AMARI REACHING FOR THE STARS

- LOUIS CORBETT

NBA prospect fuelled by five Weetabix a day

A SEVEN-foot basketballer from Nottingham who credits his success to eating five Weetabix a day is fast on his way to a career in the American NBA and his mum couldn't be prouder.

Amari, 23, is originally from Bestwood Park, attended Trinity Catholic School in Aspley, and was more dedicated to football in his younger years. Yet, he started to show promise and was invited to go to Myerscough College in Preston to develop his basketball career.

Amari then started playing university basketball with the Drexel Dragons before moving to his current team, the Kentucky Wildcats.

Amari told the Post that he has missed the city since moving to the US. He said: "It was hard at first, coming over during the Covid year and just experiencing a completely different culture. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, but as the year went on, it definitely got tough.

"There's nothing like home. Places like Highfields and Wollaton Park are always somewhere I would go when I come back, especially in the summer. And, of course, all my family and school friends are there, so it's just a feeling and city that I'll always cherish."
