'Knife crime surge means we're needed more than ever before'

CHARITY ON CHALLENGE FOR CITY
A CHARITY that works with young people in Nottingham says its work is needed more than ever after a spate of knife crime.
Base 51 has been operating for more than 30 years to support people aged 11-24 by giving them somewhere to go and people to talk to.
Incidents including a stabbing in Primark and a group fight that involved a machete have now forced them to open up about their work.
Chief executive Darren York said: "Serious violence is up there with the most difficult challenges Nottingham is facing at the moment. There is no magic bullet to solve this issue. It is about having strategies in place. For us, prevention work is a key strategy."
