MATTY PLATT ON PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHALLENGE OF BEING SIDELINED FOR THREE MONTHS WITH A CALF INJURY

- By SAM ALLEN

MATTY Platt is delighted to be back in action for Notts County after a long injury layoff, but knows he faces a fight to regain a regular starting spot.

The Magpies centre-back suffered a calf tear in the third league game of the season against Barrow on August 16, and has spent nearly three months out recovering before making his return in the Vertu Trophy against Manchester United U21s.

Platt was ever-present for Notts in his first season at the club, having arrived on a free from Bradford City, making 50 appearances in all competitions.

With that in mind, it would have felt strange for him to have to step out for months, and it was a mental challenge as he slowly eased his way back to health.

“It's nice to be back,” expressed the returning Platt.
