FUND-RAISING COUPLE CALL TIME ON LIGHTS AFTER 22 YEARS

ICE dance legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean switched on the famous Nuthall Christmas light display for the final time as the couple who have organised it for more than 20 years prepare to retire.

The lights on Laurel Crescent, were switched on at 6pm yesterday, with hundreds there to watch the spectacle one last time.

Organiser Tony Swift said this year’s event had been the “busiest it's ever been”, with spectators queueing at the gates over an hour before the switch-on.

The display, which is thought to be visited by about 30,000 people every year, has been running for 22 years, raising more than £250,000 for charity.

The event was hosted by BBC Nottingham's Rob Rose, with live music from Heidi Fletcher-Smith, leading up to the switch-on with Torvill and Dean.
