Historic chambers to be sold by council after charities were forced out

A HISTORIC city centre building, once home to charities and businesses, has been earmarked for sale by Nottingham City Council after falling into disrepair.

Clarendon Chambers, a Grade II listed building once home to The Royal Midland Institute for the Blind, will be put on the market after Nottingham City Council told tenants they had to leave in February 2025.

The city council informed tenants that, due to safety reasons and significant repair costs, they would be closing the building that once allowed them reduced rents in the city centre.

A city council spokesperson said: “The building is now vacant and has been secured with appropriate measures put in place. Approval to sell the site has been obtained as it is no longer needed by the council.”

Once home to charities such as When Women Gather and Refugee Roots, as well as several local businesses, the building has since been boarded up.
