Firm accused of 'profiting from nightmares' as it makes £22m

Yü Energy's offices at the Horizon Business Park in Nottingham

A NOTTINGHAM company that made millions in the first half of this year has been accused by disgruntled customers of profiting from nightmarish billing disputes.

Energy supplier Yü Energy, which is headquartered off Mellors Way in Strelley and supplies thousands of businesses across the UK, has been mired by customer complaints and allegations of wrongdoing in recent months.

Despite growing criticism over its alleged use of aggressive tactics such as the unprompted fitting of prepayment meters and confused billing, the supplier recently revealed it had recorded a £22.6 million profit before tax in the first half of 2025 compared to 19.8 million in 2024.

Kerensa Platts, who along with her partner Martyn Jay runs the Jaybird Deli in coastal Cornwall, previously shared how their business had been cut off abruptly and hit with a more than £2,000 bill for just five weeks of electricity.
