E-bikes to be fitted with stronger locks
Nottingham Post
|July 12, 2025
THE company behind Nottingham's e-bikes says criminals are using "extreme force" to smash locks on the vehicles and break rules without being identified.
Lime says it is now fitting stronger locks on its 750 e-bikes.
The Post reported this week that Lime bikes were seen dumped around Gedling, despite the vehicles only being allowed within the Nottingham city boundary.
Dumped vehicles have also been seen in parts of Rushcliffe and two Gedling borough councillors believe those responsible were stealing the bikes.
In a response to councillors Sam Smith and Mike Adams, who raised the issue, Lime has explained how some riders are flouting the rules.
In an email to the pair, the company said: "Criminals exerting extreme force have in some instances been able to 'unlock' a bike, thus riding it without being subject to the controls we impose via our app, and without being identified.
