'OUTDATED' WALKWAYS CONTAIN HAZARDOUS ASBESTOS

Demolition bid for Beales' bridges

TWO bridges at an empty Mansfield department store are set to be demolished under plans that will pave the way for its multi-million pound redevelopment.

Beales closed in 2020 after its owners fell into administration during the pandemic, but now its long-planned redevelopment is taking another step forward.

Mansfield District Council's £30 million regeneration plan hopes to give the grey and vacant Queen Street shopping centre a brighter future by turning it into a new civic and community hub. The old store is expected to house Mansfield District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, as well as a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) job assessment centre, a fitness suite and a small shop.
