GARAGE HAD FOUND ISSUE WITH THROTTLE CABLE ON SAME DAY AND ADVISED HIM NOT TO RIDE IT

- By RUCSANDRA MOLDOVEANU

A NOTTINGHAMSHIRE dad died after riding his motorcycle at speed and over the drink-drive limit, despite knowing about a problem with the bike.

Jason Wynne, from Pinxton, died “instantly” from his injuries after crashing into a lamppost in Alfreton Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield.

An inquest held by coroner Nathanael Hartley at Nottingham Coroner’s Court on Tuesday heard that a postmortem examination found the 31-year-old’s alcohol level to be at 100mg per 100ml of blood, with the drink drive limit in England being 80mg per 100ml of blood.

Mr Hartley told the court the crash took place at around 11.20pm on August 19 last year.

The one witness to the collision told investigators that she heard the engine “randomly revving’, with Mr Wynne “going fast and seemingly going faster” before he lost control of his Honda Hornet bike. He failed to negotiate a left-turning bend, striking a pedestrian refuge in the centre of the carriageway and leaving the road before hitting a lamppost.

Georgina Luke, of Nottinghamshire Police's serious collision unit, told the coroner that Mr Wynne had gone to a garage in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, the same day after having “a bit of an accident and coming off his bike”.
