cost-cutting measures. Now called Neighbourhood Safety Officers (NSOs), their numbers were then brought down even further to just 36 amid continued financial troubles.

With finances having since improved following the council's declaration of what was effectively bankruptcy in 2023, more NSOs are now being employed.

Four NSOs were employed under this year's budget, and the council has now announced a further 10 will start after April, funded under the 2026/27 budget. This means their number will have been increased to 50, following years of cuts.
