TRAGEDY FOLLOWED A DRUG-FUELLED NIGHT OUT
SEVERAL opportunities were missed to save an artist who died after missing a London Underground train and clambering into the tunnel.
Sarah Cunningham, who was born and raised in Nottingham but had moved to Wandsworth, went missing last year. Two days later her remains were discovered in a Tube tunnel.
The 31-year-old had been on a night out with friends in Camden. She missed a train from Chalk Farm, on the Northern Line, and drunkenly clambered into the tunnel at 3.30am.
At Poplar Coroner's Court on Wednesday, Coroner Mary Hassell ruled the death was an accident that happened while Sarah was under the influence of alcohol, cocaine, and ketamine after a night out at the Jazz Cafe nightclub.
Friends also gave evidence she may have taken an 'edible' or magic mushroom chocolate, and was also suffering jet lag after landing from a work trip.
Friends said she had appeared 'extremely positive, excited, and happy, and had plans to visit her parents in Nottingham.
Dad Edward Cunningham was convinced she had not intended to die, telling the court in a statement: "In my view Sarah did not commit suicide. She was not low, depressed, or unhappy. She was bubbly, funny, very sharp, intelligent, hysterically funny, kind, loving, fully determined, and empathetic. There are not enough words to do her justice. She was very special. She was just full of fun.
"When she was in primary school she said she would be a famous artist, and she never wavered. I can't believe she is gone."
