City council to spend another £385,000 on more outside finance staff

NOTTINGHAM City Council is to spend another £385,000 on outside staff to make its finance department more “robust” as a staff shortage means it is not “feasible” for it to do the work itself.

The Labour-run council says the outsourcing will make finance teams more effective after a recent report found its financial management remained “off-track”.
The council has been spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on consultants, external staff and temporary workers to plug gaps in its workforce. The latest spending was confirmed in a report published on April 17 and relates to a review of how effective its finance team is.
