GANG LEADERS SPLURGED PROFITS ON HOLIDAYS AND DESIGNER GEAR

- JOEL MOORE

Boxing coach who helped to bring in £7m of crystal meth from America posed for selfies with wads of cash

THE leaders of a Nottingham gang who shipped more than £7 million worth of crystal meth to the UK flaunted their ill-gotten cash and splurged it on luxury holidays all over the world.

Six people were jailed after “colossal amounts” of the class A drug were smuggled from the US.

The ringleaders, including Sherwood boxing coach Davante James, collected hundreds of thousands of pounds on a monthly basis, and used it to fund expensive trips to places such as Thailand, Dominican Republic, Dubai, Central America and the Greek Islands.

James, 29, posed for selfies with large wads of cash in both hands and gang members also spent large sums on designer clothing, including a pair of £1,200 trainers and high-value watches. Nottingham Crown Court was told the organised crime group's multi-million-pound drugs operation was uncovered following a parcel interception at Stansted Airport in May 2023.

The package had been shipped from America and had a label that described it as a weight loss shake, but was found to contain 900g of methamphetamine - also known as crystal meth - and 2kg of cannabis. Further parcels linked to the case were soon discovered, sparking a major investigation by Nottinghamshire Police’s Serious Organised Crime Unit.
