A SITE that has been neglected for years is being decontaminated ahead of a multi-million pound regeneration.

Developer Langcroft has submitted plans to regenerate an unsightly patch of land off Pond Street in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, which was last used as a place to park lorry trailers.

The housebuilder wants to turn the brownfield land, which is known locally as Pond Hole, into 50 retirement apartments that it says will "transform this neglected space into useful and attractive residential accommodation".

The firm is working with Ashfield District Council, which late last year submitted its own plans to build a 20-home apartment complex on Ellis Street nearby, to revive the town centre area.
