Residents call on health bosses to ‘start delivering’
North Devon Journal
|December 11, 2025
ILFRACOMBE residents have vented their frustration at the loss of healthcare services in the town and called on local government and the NHS to take action.
-
Issues ranging from service closures, the funding of early years at nurseries, reductions in pharmacy provision and a lack of social housing were raised at a meeting organised by the League of Friends of the Tyrrell Hospital and attended by about 80 people.
A panel of six healthcare professionals and elected representatives fielded questions, many of which focused on funding bids to help Ilfracombe failing - despite its central district being in the lowest 3% for health deprivation in England.
The provisional closure of the Minor Injuries Unit at the Tyrrell Hospital by Devon's Integrated Care Board drew particular anger, which was sharpened by the board’s decision not to send a representative to the public meeting.
