1 Why is OpenAI easing the rules for adults?
Sam Altman says OpenAI had made ChatGPT "pretty restrictive" to address the mental health concerns of a million-plus users. With systems in place now, it will launch a version in December to revive some traits of GPT-40, expand age-gating and adopt a "treat adults like adults" policy allowing verified adults access to mature content, including erotica. OpenAI admits age detection isn't foolproof, so it'll default to an under-18 mode when uncertain. It has also set up an Expert Council on Well-Being and AI with psychologists, psychiatrists and human-computer connect experts to guide healthier experiences.
