What is Trump's problem with paracetamol?

Mint New Delhi

September 25, 2025

US President Donald Trump has linked the use of over-the-counter painkiller Tylenol (paracetamol) by pregnant women to an increased risk of autism in children, leading to widespread alarm.

What is Trump's problem with paracetamol?

Public health bodies have refuted the claim, calling it "unfounded." Mint explains:

1 What are Trump's Tylenol claims?

The Trump administration has claimed that acetaminophen (paracetamol) use by pregnant women, especially late in pregnancy, may cause long-term neurological effects in their children. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) cases have surged nearly 400% in the US since 2000, and now affect 1 in 31 American children. Trump advised pregnant women to "fight like hell not to take it" and that doctors in the US would be advised not to prescribe Tylenol to them. The US FDA will initiate a safety label change for acetaminophen and the HHS will launch a nationwide public service campaign to inform families.
