Will exceed FY24 tax collection target: CBDT chairman Gupta

The government will exceed its direct tax collection target of ₹18.23 trillion this financial year, going by the healthy revenue growth so far, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) chairman Nitin Gupta said.
Gupta told reporters that during state assembly polls and the national polls, the tax authority maintains intense surveillance on unexplained cash and jewellery, and takes action in coordination with union and state election authorities.
Gupta said the Centre's direct tax revenue collection is growing at 21-22% on net basis after refunds, while on a gross basis, it is growing in the range of 17-18%.
