Banking liquidity deficit widens

The liquidity deficit in the Indian banking system hit the highest in nearly six months on advance tax payments by companies and likely dollar sales by the central bank to curb rupee volatility.

The banking system cash deficit, as measured by banks' borrowings from the Reserve Bank of India, was at ₹150,000 crore as of Monday, the highest since 24 June, according to a Bloomberg Economics Index.
