Sebi mulls longer F&O contracts to curb retail frenzy

The capital markets regulator is exploring the introduction of longer-tenured derivative contracts in index options to realign the fast-growing segment with its intended purpose of hedging and capital formation, rather than pure speculation.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is considering whether contracts could expire fortnightly or monthly, instead of weekly, which some argue encourages speculative short-term bets, Sebi chairperson Tuhin Kanta Pandey said at Ficci's 22nd Capital Markets Conference (CAPAM) in Mumbai on Thursday.
