HMPV is not a new pathogen in India

India saw more than 200 cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases between January and December last year, senior government scientists said, emphasizing that the virus is not a new pathogen and there was no cause for concern.
The virus has been reported every year in India, and there is no unusual increase in cases in the country. Further, the country's Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) is also not showing any surge
