'U' in UPS means 'U-turns': Congress hits out at Unified Pension Scheme
Millennium Post Delhi
|August 26, 2024
A day after the Union Cabinet approved a new Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for Central government employees, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticised the move, describing the "U" in UPS as denoting the "U-turns" that the Narendra Modi-led BJP government takes on various issues.
-
With the scheme, the Modi government assured Central government employees 50 per cent of the average salary drawn over the last 12 months of service as a pension.
In a post on X, Kharge said: "The 'U' in UPS stands for Modi Govt's U-turns! Post-June 4, the power of the people has prevailed over the arrogance of the Prime Minister." The opposition party also alleged that the UPS appears to be an attack on Dalits, tribals, and backward classes.
Taking a dig at the government, Kharge, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, said: "Rollback in the budget regarding Long-Term Capital Gain/Indexation. Sending Waqf Bill to JPC.
Rollback of Broadcast Bill. Rollback of Lateral Entry." "We will keep ensuring accountability and protect 140 crore Indians from this despotic government," the Congress chief said.
