WASHINGTON: Donald Trump made history Monday as he took the oath of office as the 47th President of the United States, becoming only the second American president to serve two non-consecutive terms, following Grover Cleveland's precedent from the 19th century. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice John Roberts at the Capitol Rotunda in a ceremony steeped in symbolism and tradition.

This inauguration, which coincided with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, was only the second instance of an inauguration being held indoors due to extremely cold weather, the previous one being President Ronald Reagan's second-term swearing-in in 1985.

The day's events began with a traditional tea ceremony at the White House, where outgoing President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden welcomed President Trump and incoming First Lady Melania Trump. Biden greeted Trump with the words “Welcome home,” according to media reports. Vice President Kamala Harris and her successor, J.D. Vance, along with their spouses, also participated in the ceremony. In a poignant display of bipartisan unity, Jill Biden and Melania Trump rode together to the Capitol in a separate car, as did Harris and Vance.
