The Election Commission (EC) on Monday detailed the framework for the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which will be carried out across 12 states and Union Territories.

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar said the process, aimed at ensuring accurate and inclusive voter lists, would involve house-to-house verification and conclude with the publication of final rolls by February 2026.

"The SIR will be a detailed, people-centric exercise where Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will make three visits to every house to verify voter details," Gyanesh Kumar said at a press conference. He added that the revised electoral rolls would be completed and published by February 2026.

The CEC underlined the crucial role of BLOs, who will assist new voters in filling out Form 6 and other required documents for inclusion, collect enumeration forms, and submit them to the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) or their assistants. "Every BLO will visit each household at least three times to ensure accuracy and inclusion," Kumar said.
