Night runs capture a rare moment on the highway, with the world moving fast while still staying calm.

The Midnight Run

City lights fade in the rear-view mirror, traffic thins and the road stretches like a ribbon of dark glass illuminated only by the headlights. The engine settles into a steady purr. Tyres whisper on the asphalt. Somewhere in the distance, trucks rumble slowly along and the occasional car glides past like a ghost.

This is when a car reveals its true personality. In daytime traffic, every vehicle feels similar. You stop, crawl, accelerate and brake. Then repeat the cycle. At midnight on an open highway, differences begin to emerge. Some cars feel calm and reassuring, as if they were built for this moment. Others feel restless - the steering nervous, wind noise creeping into the cabin and the driver tiring with every passing kilometre.

Long-distance night driving is the ultimate test of an automobile. Not merely of the engine humming beneath the bonnet, but of the engineering effort behind the machine. Pistons rise and fall in perfect synchrony, crankshafts spin tirelessly and mechanical components work together in quiet harmony.

What makes a car feel relaxed at highway speeds? Much of the answer lies in something most drivers rarely think about. Aerodynamics. Once a vehicle crosses 80 or 100 km per hour, the invisible wall of air pushing against it becomes a powerful force.

Engineers spend thousands of hours shaping a car's body to manage this resistance. Modern vehicles are sculpted to guide airflow smoothly over the bonnet, along the sides and across the roof.
