Fresh plea in SC challenges validity of Waqf Act, 2025
Millennium Post Delhi
|April 07, 2025
A new petition has been submitted to the Supreme Court contesting the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.
NEW DELHI:
The Samastha Kerala Jamiathul Ulema, a Sunni Muslim scholars' organisation based in Kerala, lodged the plea, asserting that the Act represents a "blatant intrusion" into the rights of religious denominations to manage their own religious affairs.
President Droupadi Murmu granted her assent to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, on Saturday, following its passage in Parliament amid intense debates in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
