FINAL ROLL DUE SEPTEMBER 30

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bihar SIR: Claims, objections can be filed beyond Sept 1 deadline, EC tells Top Court

The Supreme Court on Monday recorded the Election Commission of India's (ECI) submission that claims, objections, and corrections to Bihar's draft electoral roll may continue to be filed after the September 1 deadline, though these will only be acted upon once the final list is published.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi noted the poll panel's assurance that the process of inclusions and exclusions "continues until the last date of nominations" and all approved changes would ultimately be reflected in the final roll. "The applications submitted for claims, objections or corrections after September 1 will be considered after the electoral roll has been finalised," the EC clarified in its note. The final roll is scheduled for publication on September 30.
