The Philippine Trust Co., known today as Philtrust Bank, secured its reputation as an unshakeable financial custodian early in its history, a fact underscored by its relationship with one of the era's most towering figures: General Douglas MacArthur.

While Philtrust is now a universal bank, Philtrust’s origins as the nation's premier trust institution in 1916 provided the stability and confidential service that attracted elite and institutional clients—including the future Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers. Founded on Oct. 21, 1916, Philtrust was established not as a primary commercial lender, but as the Philippines’ first dedicated trust company.
