VP Sara, FPRRD discussing options for mayoral oath-taking amid ICC case

Vice President Sara Z. Duterte confirmed on Monday, May 12, ongoing discussions with the legal teams of former President Rodrigo R. Duterte regarding how he may officially take his oath as mayor here should he win in the midterm elections.

Vice President Duterte said they have been discussing with the former Chief Executive's lawyer at the International Criminal Court (ICC) and his Philippine lawyer about how her father can take his oath as the winner of the mayoral contest in the midterm elections here.

"We discussed it a few days ago and came up with three options about how he might be able to take the oath. According to his ICC lawyer, once they receive the proclamation documents, we'll revisit the discussion on how the former President can take his oath," the Vice President said.

Vice President Duterte added that the process — from election to proclamation to oath-taking — is currently on hold for now pending further coordination. She said they have until noon on June 30 for former President Duterte to take his oath.

The Vice President acknowledged the absence of the former Chief Executive from the city once he officially assumed his post. She emphasized that his father would not be here since he was kidnapped and detained at a detention facility in The Hague for alleged crimes against humanity.
