The holy spirit... will teach you everything

The new presence of Jesus, through the Holy Spirit that he will ask the Father to send, will complete the still limited understanding of the disciples. The Holy Spirit will not only console them but will also act as their teacher. As the disciples face the new challenges that will emerge after the Lord's death and resurrection, they will need the gift of wisdom and fortitude to carry out the command to go and proclaim God's love to all.

The Holy Spirit will bring back to their memory the teachings and actions of Jesus, his creative power that liberates persons from the shackles of evil and sin, and frees them for a life of grace and service.

In this period of the Easter season when we come closer to the celebration of Pentecost, let us invoke the presence of the Spirit to accompany our journey toward a fuller understanding of the meaning and the power of the Easter faith.

First Reading - Acts 14:5-18

There was an attempt in Iconium by both the Gentiles and the Jews, together with their leaders, to attack and stone Paul and Barnabas. They realized it, and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding countryside, where they continued to proclaim the Good News.
