PNP ready for summer exodus

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has started implementing its intensified security measures for the dry season amid expected exodus of millions of people to their respective provinces for long vacations that also coincides with the midterm elections.

Dubbed as Ligtas SUMVAC (summer vacation) 2025, PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said it details security measures to ensure public safety and maintain peace and order nationwide from April 1 to May 31.

The operational plan, according to Marbil, will require the deployment of more than 40,000 policemen nationwide under the Enhanced Operational Concept of Managing Police Operations (EMPO) Strategy.

He said the strategy focuses on increasing police visibility, intensifying patrol operations, and enhancing coordination with other government agencies and local government units.

Marbil explained that the intensified security is necessary as there are several special events that would be held from April 1 to May 31, including the Holy Week from April 13 to April 20, Araw ng Kagitingan, Labor Day and the Flores de Mayo.

"The summer months bring a surge in travel as families take advantage of the long holidays and school break to visit their provinces, attend reunions, and enjoy vacations in resorts, beaches, and other tourist destinations," said Marbil.
