Palace calls for sobriety amid flood control scandal protests

Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said this after a mud-throwing protest held by disaster survivors and environmental groups outside the Pasig office of St. Gerrard Construction on Thursday, Sept. 4.

Protesters likewise staged demonstrations outside the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) office in Manila, and even hurled rotten vegetables mixed with foul-smelling water at police officers outside the building.

In her press briefing, Castro said President Marcos does not want public anger to spiral into chaos.

"He has said we must follow due process," she added.

The Palace Press Officer stressed that the ongoing investigations into the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) projects are intended to serve the people, not to create disorder.

"His objective is for us all to be enlightened on what is happening and to give what is due to the people," she added.

Castro said Marcos had directed government agencies and law enforcement to prevent violent escalation while the review of projects and budget allocations continues.
