I am the way and the truth and the life

Manila Bulletin

May 16, 2025

Whatever happens, the goal of life remains to be union with Jesus and his Father. And the true and life-giving way to that “destination” is Jesus himself.

There is no need to look for another compass or map to find the way to God, the way of salvation. It is enough to look at Jesus and follow him: “Where I am, there also will my servant be” (Jn 12:26).

In today's Gospel, Jesus consoles his disciples who feel “lost.” In the context of his farewell discourse at the Last Supper, he reveals to them his imminent departure, including the betrayal of Judas and the denial of Peter (13:2138) hence we can imagine the feeling of foreboding lurking in the hearts of the disciples, and hence, Jesus’ consoling words: “Do not let your hearts be troubled” (v 1).
