As He passes through a village in Samaria on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus encounters 10 lepers pleading for mercy.

Truly, at that time and until now, lepers are pitiful. In contrast to the slaves in the previous reading, these lepers demand favor from the Lord. They badly need help. They are taking advantage of His passing through. They must have developed their faith by hearing from others stories about Jesus. They are so lucky to have crossed paths with Him. Jesus readily gives in to their demand. And He commands them to present themselves to the priests in Jerusalem. They might meet Him there again. The lepers obey, but one of them, a Samaritan, unexpectedly returns to thank Jesus when he realizes he is cleansed. Take note: he does not just simply say, "Thank you," but does it in a loud voice, glorifying God (v 15).
