In the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary, the coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary follows her assumption into heaven.

As offshoot of the solemnity of the Assumption (August 15), it is celebrated on August 22, in the octave of the feast. In his 1954 encyclical To the Queen of Heaven that established the feast, Pope Pius XII points out that Mary deserves the title because she is the Mother of God, because she is closely associated as the New Eve with Jesus’ redemptive work, because of her preeminent perfection, and because of her intercessory power. At the annunciation, the angel Gabriel announces that Mary’s Son will receive the throne of David and rule forever.
