TWO WEEKS BEFORE YOUNGSTER RECEIVED MEDICAL CARE FOLLOWING BRUTAL SHAKING

- By RACHEL SMITH & PAUL BRITTON

A MANCHESTER United fan shook his newborn baby daughter so hard after his team lost the FA Cup final that she was left with brain damage, a court heard.

The dad, from Oldham, was in a bad mood when he was left to look after the four-week-old girl while his partner went for a night out in Preston on June 3, 2023.

That afternoon, Manchester United lost 2-1 to Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

After attacking the infant, the man messaged his partner saying the baby had 'spewed up a little bit of blood, Preston Crown Court heard.

"What if she's f***ing dying?" he asked, but the child's mum told him to call 111 and carried on with her night out, the court was told.

The baby suffered injuries to her brain that required emergency surgery and lost sight in one eye as a result of the attack, but it was two weeks before she received any medical care, prosecutor Rachel White told the court. The baby is being cared for by family members.
