SCHEME AIMS TO GENERATE ENOUGH POWER FOR OVER 300 HOMES

- By CHARLOTTE HALL newsdesk@men-news.co.uk @MENnewsdesk

WORK is under way on Oldham's first solar farm, a council-funded clean energy scheme next to the Rochdale Canal in Failsworth.

Around 2,700 solar panels are due to be installed on land at Wrigley Head in Failsworth.

The project on the 3.5 acre plot, bounded by the Metrolink and canal routes, will help make the borough "more green", create local green jobs, and bring down energy costs, according to the council.

Coun Abdul Jabbar, deputy leader of the council, said: "Wrigley Head Solar Farm is an important step for Oldham. It will generate renewable energy, support local jobs and training, and contribute to protecting our environment."
