Mayor 'is risking going Truss way' warns chancellor

BURNHAM'S CALLS FOR MORE BORROWING COME UNDER FIRE

RACHEL Reeves has suggested Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham "risks going the way of Liz Truss" if he pushes ahead with calls for more government borrowing.

Speaking to LBC, the Chancellor was asked about comments by the Prime Minister, who last week compared Burnham's economic approach to that of the former Tory leader.

"If he's saying...anybody that says you can just borrow more, I do think that risks going the way of Liz Truss," she said.

It comes as Mr Burnham fuelled speculation that he is plotting a return to Parliament with plans to replace Sir Keir as Prime Minister.
