MUSIC LEGEND ON HIS OASIS LINK AND HIS PRIDE AT BEING A 'SALFORD LAD'

- By DIANNE BOURNE

Liam and Noel think I'm their uncle...

Graham, centre, during his days in The Hollies

WHEN it comes to Manchester's impressive roll call of rock ‘n’ roll stars, few can claim to have had quite the stellar, and sustained, career of Graham Nash.

He first found fame with Manchester band The Hollies in the 1960s and would go on to global superstardom with Crosby, Stills and Nash in the 1970s and continues to tour as a solo star now at the age of 83.

Indeed he will make his return to home turf with his new tour heading to Manchester's Bridgewater Hall on October 16.

But what does Graham make of another Mancunian band Oasis grabbing headlines across the world? Well, Graham is all for that triumphant return.

And he has a surprising revelation about apparent family ties to Liam and Noel Gallagher too.

Speaking to the M.E.N. from his New York City home, Graham said: “I'm very pleased with the success of Oasis and their tour, particularly here in America.

“But, you know, my publicist a couple of years ago said to me ‘do you know anybody from Oasis?” I said: “No I've never met them, why?” And he said: “Well, they think that you're their uncle”. He laughs at the memory, saying: “What was that? How is that?”

“And I realised it’s because my mother’s maiden name was Mary Gallagher. And how many Gallaghers were there in Salford 70 years ago? So it was very funny. So it's very possible that we are family related.”
