SOAP ACTOR SET TO TACKLE MOUNTAIN TREK FOR CHARITY

- By ELIZABETH COTTON

CORONATION Street star Sally Dynevor, best known for her alter ego of Sally Metcalfe while on the cobbles, is preparing to take on her next huge mission as she raises money for a cause close to her heart.

The 62-year-old actress first graced our screens in the ITV soap back in 1986 and has been a consistent face in Weatherfield ever since her debut.

While Sally has taken on various emotional and hard-hitting storylines, many viewers will recall when her onscreen persona found a lump on her breast, and was later informed she had breast cancer.

Following the diagnosis for her character, the actress found out that she had the same disease while filming the heartbreaking scenes. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Sally recalled: "Well, I mean, that was quite a shocking time for me because I was doing the script and Sally had cancer, but I had no knowledge that I had it.

"That was the incredible thing about that, and I think if it hadn't been for that script and working on it, I don't think I would have checked or I wouldn't have thought it was a possibility that I could get breast cancer because I was only 46, and I thought that's quite young."

She continued: "Now I've realised, it can affect people, young people. So, raising awareness is incredibly important. And if it hadn't have been for that script, I might not... Well, who knows?"
