Applications are invited for the position of Commissioner for the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
The Commissioner, acting under the policy direction of the Minister of Finance and in accordance with the values and principles of the Constitution, is required to do all that is necessary to lead the institution in collecting revenue in an efficient and effective manner. This includes formulating the strategic intent and operational plan for SARS to deliver on its mandate. The successful candidate will be an individual who reflects the highest professional standards of ethical conduct and displays a commitment to integrity, fairness and accountability. The Commissioner must uphold a degree of independence that is beyond reproach and foster public trust, while ensuring the delivery of high-quality service to all residents of South Africa.
Some key outputs include:
The development and implementation of SARS' strategic intent to fulfil its mandate Ensuring effective management of the operations of SARS, including: Determining the organisational arrangements of the institution, the staff establishment and appointment of employees, and conditions of employment (in accordance with Section 18 of the SARS Act) • Leading the modernisation of SARS by deploying appropriate digital and emerging technologies to achieve effective tax and customs administration • Performing any of the other actions as described in Section 5.1 of the SARS Act.
