Burns hits red-hot century in Macc win
Macclesfield Express
|June 25, 2025
Burns struck an epic innings of 173 in what was a dazzling highlight of the club’s weekend action.
Burns’ heriocs came against visitors Sale, for whom skipper Jamie Coombes had won the toss at Victoria Road and with, rain interruptions likely, asked Macc to bat first.
Openers Burns and Marcus Fisher began solidly and reached 23-0 after seven overs without offering any chances.
Having got their eye in on a good-looking wicket, the scoring rate accelerated as eight boundaries came in the next few overs, during which time the 50-run stand was achieved as Burns hit the last ball of the ninth over for a four.
Landmarks were reached as firstly Burns hit his personal 50 in the 18th over with the score on 96-0. The century partnership came in the 19th over and Macc were building an exceedingly strong position.
Sale did make a break through when Fisher was trapped lbw for 39 making the score 107-1, but that only ushered in what would be an amazing partnership of 134 between Burns and Raghav Vyas.
With Burns cutting any ball with width outside the off stump for any number of fours and Vyas sweeping any ball on leg stump to the leg-side boundary, the run rate accelerated and Sale could do nothing to stop the score rocketing.
Even a couple of short rain breaks did nothing to slow the momentum.
