Drama over comment on North city

ALREADY an award-winning star of stage and screen, London-born actor Cynthia Erivo this week landed another major role as she was named vice president of the world-leading and influential RADA drama school in the capital.

But she might want to give Sunderland a wide berth after a video clip from 2022 emerged showing her less-than-favourable impression of the city when she visited while appearing in the UK tour of the Sister Act stage show.

Appearing on the Amber Ruffin show in the US, Ms Erivo said that while "some cities are wonderful...other cities are not so wonderful," before praising Manchester, a city she describes as "incredible because it feels like London, really and truly".

After giving her take on the Scouse accent from her stay in Liverpool she goes on to say: "And then you go to Sunderland and you're like, 'where the f*** am I? I don't know where I am. This is not where I live. At all."
